NSW: Search continues for thieves who abandoned toddler

Police have appealed for public help after a two-year-old boy died yesterday when he
was trapped for nearly three hours in the back seat of his mother's stolen car.

The black BMW was stolen a minute after it was left outside the Barra supermarket in
Cabramatta with the engine and air conditioning running.

The thieves dumped the car several kilometres away after realising there was a toddler
in the back seat.

The boy, LEO, was rushed to hospital but died a short time later from a cardiac arrest,
triggered by heat stress.

The toddler was waiting for his mother in the back seat of her BMW outside the supermarket
in Cabramatta at 1pm, when the thieves struck.

Police found the vehicle around 4pm several kilometres away in Grace Avenue, Cabramatta
with the child unconscious inside.

Sergeant TERRY NEWMAN told ABC radio police have been canvassing the area where the
car was found overnight and they'll be continuing door knocking residents today.
