GARDEN WAY CUTS 15 JOBS.(BUSINESS)

TROY -- Garden Way Inc. said Friday that it would lay off 15 mailroom employees at its East Greenbush plant as the company concentrates on profits.

The company is also examining the possible sale or closure of non-profitable operations to reduce costs after what company senior vice president Steven L. Richards said were problems caused by overexpansion.

``The company probably grew too fast over the past two years,'' he said. ``The big challenge now is to move forward. We are taking the business apart, looking at it, and putting it together. The fundamentals are very strong.''
